Founded in 1948, as Robinson and Redo, the family owned and operated company constructed many new homes and helped develop numerous subdivisions in the Southern Illinois area. In 1963, the company was incorporated into J & L Robinson Development and Construction Company, and in 1971 moved to its current location in the Carbondale Industrial Park.

The Company has grown from its roots as a small residential construction company to one of the largest general contracting/ project management contractors in Southern Illinois. We routinely perform work in Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, Educational, Retail, Healthcare, and Recreational fields. Our reputation is one of being the most honest, professional, courteous and safest general contractors in the area. We annually receive safety awards from the Associated General Contractors Of America & Southern Illinois Builders Association for safety excellence and low incidence rates.

J & L Robinson Construction and Development Company ,by definition, is one of the only true general contractors left in the Southern Illinois area. We self perform our own demolition, site earthwork, site utility work, site & structural concrete work, and rough & finish carpentry work. We own and maintain our own fleet of heavy equipment and are only one of two local distributors of Varco Pruden pre-engineered metal buildings. Varco Pruden is one of the largest pre-engineered metal building manufacturers in the nation. This combined with VP Command estimating/ detailing/ ordering software for Varco Pruden pre-engineered metal buildings, allows us to cost estimate, generate detailed drawings, and order the material to the clients specifications.

We average 80 employees on staff at all times. This includes office and field personnel. Some of our key personnel have been employed by J & L Robinson Development and Construction Company for over 20 years. Some of our carpenters, cement masons, operators, etc. have worked for us for over 30 years. All of our job superintendents started out as carpenters, laborers, cement masons, etc. Only through years of work experience and dealing with our clients on a daily basis did they become job superintendents. We feel we have some of the most knowledgeable, courteous and professional job superintendents in the construction industry. Our key employees, job superintendents and project managers have been trained in CPR, First Aid, and have attended several OSHA training classes. The education of key employees, job superintendents and project managers is on a continuing basis throughout each year.
